Medicinal herbs of Siberia. Medicinal plants of Siberia Medicinal herbs and plants of Siberia

Herbal treatment is the most ancient way to combat all kinds of diseases. Over the thousands of years of its existence, humans have discovered and studied the healing properties of hundreds of medicinal plants that can help with this or that disease. Over its long history, many effective recipes have been created, many of which have survived and are used in folk medicine today.

This section of the site presents many types of medicinal herbs, including field species, with high-quality photographs, the name of each plant and a detailed description of their beneficial properties and methods of use.

Despite the enormous pace of development of traditional medicine and all the new products that the pharmaceutical industry offers, the use of medicinal plants to treat all kinds of diseases still remains relevant and does not lose its popularity. They can be used both for the prevention and treatment of various chronic and acute diseases in any field of medicine.

Medicinal herbs used in folk medicine can be fresh or dried, used both externally and internally. Medicinal herbs are much safer for human health than pharmaceutical drugs. They have fewer contraindications and side effects on the body.

For treatment use:

  • tinctures;
  • decoctions;
  • extracts;
  • infusions;
  • tea fees.

Despite its apparent simplicity and harmlessness, alternative treatment requires knowledge and caution. After all, for a positive result, medicinal raw materials must be collected correctly. And the tinctures, decoctions or extracts made from them are prepared only according to exact recipes. We should not forget about dosages. This is especially true for those medications that need to be taken orally.

It is advisable, before preparing medicine from herbs, to study our website, which lists medicinal herbs, photos with names, learn about the indications and contraindications of a particular medicinal plant, and methods of their preparation. You must not forget to carefully examine the raw materials for the medicine itself. It should be free of mold, dirt and other defects.

You can use medicinal plants in preparing not only healing infusions and decoctions, but also delicious dishes. AiF-Novosibirsk has prepared a small list of plants that can be harvested now: at the end of summer, September and October.

Burdock roots

Important: It is better to choose burdock root vegetables in the first year of life. They are dug up in October, when the leaves begin to turn yellow. In the spring of the second year, the roots are dug up before the flower stalks begin to grow.

What it treats: Old burdock leaves are used for medicinal purposes for bruises, sprains, rheumatism, and heel spurs. In Siberia and the Caucasus, burdock has long been considered a vegetable plant, and in Japan it is grown in garden beds. Burdock roots can be used in food - they can easily replace parsnips, parsley and even carrots, and also prepare delicious dishes. Burdock roots are steamed, boiled and fried. In addition, burdock oil is prepared from them, which is used to treat hair. To prepare it, take 100 g of crushed burdock roots and 200 g of any vegetable oil. Mix everything and leave to stand for a day. Then, stirring constantly, cook the mixture over low heat for 15 minutes. After this, cool it, strain it, pour it into a glass bottle and store it in the refrigerator.

Dandelion

What it contains: Nutrients are found in all parts of the plant - roots, leaves, flowers. Dandelion contains vitamins A, C, E, PP and group B, and a significant amount of microelements. Protein, insulin, organic acids, sugars, mucus, tannins, oils, resins, etc. are found in the plant.

What it treats: The easiest way to treat with dandelion is to regularly use it in food. Jams and pastilles are made from dandelion. Fresh dandelion juice can be used to lubricate warts, calluses, age spots, and freckles. Dandelion juice (it is obtained from crushed leaves and roots by squeezing with a small amount of warm water) is drunk for diseases of the liver, kidneys and bladder, to strengthen teeth and bones, relieve swelling and pain in the joints, increase appetite, normalize blood sugar levels and activation of metabolism, in case of intoxication and poisoning, as an effective diuretic. Drink one tablespoon of this juice before meals. Dandelion leaves, ground into a paste, can also be used in the treatment of skin diseases, wounds, ulcers, boils and bedsores.

Badan

What it contains: Roots, leaves, flowers and seeds contain carbohydrates, tannins, flavonoids, a lot of manganese, iron, copper, some vitamins and phytoncides, tannins and arbutin. The roots contain polyphenols, large amounts of tannins, resins, and starch.

What it treats: This plant has antimicrobial, diuretic and hemostatic properties. An infusion of bergenia can be prepared as follows: take 20 grams of leaves and flowers of the plant, pour a glass of hot water, leave in a water bath for up to 15 minutes, then cool. You can take two tablespoons several times a day. With the same infusion you can gargle a sore throat and mouth with stomatitis and periodontal disease, do douching and lotions. If you have a severe runny nose, you can prepare the following infusion: mix one spoon each of bergenia leaves, elecampane and two spoons of St. John's wort. Pour one spoon of this mixture into 200 ml of hot water, boil over low heat for 20 minutes, leave for another hour. You need to take the product a quarter glass twice a day hot, you can add sea buckthorn oil to the infusion. This way you can quickly cure a severe runny nose. For hemorrhoids, make a bath of bergenia decoction. The temperature should not be higher than 38°C, and the duration should be 20 minutes. Do such baths no more than 15 times.

Bergenia tea is also very tasty. To do this, it is collected in the spring and the black, already dried leaves that have lain under the snow all winter are dried. It is from these leaves that real, very tasty and healthy Altai tea is prepared. I add bergenia to mint, lemon balm, oregano, or just to loose leaf tea. The only condition is that you need to brew incense longer than regular tea, since its leaves are quite thick and do not have time to open quickly. Our whole family simply loves this delicious drink, and guests, before coming, always order this tea to accompany their sweets. It gives strength, and most importantly, it has antitumor properties!

Burnet

What it contains: The leaves contain vitamin C and carotene, tannins (23%), starch (about 30%), essential oil (up to 1.8%), saponins (up to 4%). Burnet raw materials are harvested in the fall, in August - September, during the fruiting period of plants.

What it treats: At home, you can prepare a decoction of 1 tbsp. spoons of crushed roots and a glass of water. You need to take it 1 tbsp. spoon 5 times a day. This decoction is used for gastrointestinal diseases accompanied by diarrhea. Burnet is also good in dishes. Fresh young leaves of this herb resemble cucumbers in taste and smell, so they can be used as a salad. Finely chop the burnet leaves, green onions and dill, add sour cream and salt. Or make jelly from burnet rhizomes. To do this, take 100 g of burnet rhizomes, 1 glass of milk, butter, sugar. Wash the rhizomes, freeze, then finely chop, add milk and cook until tender, crushing and grinding them during the cooking process. Add butter and sugar to taste.

Valerian

What it contains: About 100 individual substances have been found in valerian roots. The roots contain up to 0.5-2% essential oil.

What it treats: This herb has long been known for its calming and sedative properties. With its help, inhibition processes in the cerebral cortex are stimulated, coronary circulation is improved, and cardiac activity is regulated. In addition, valerian helps with migraines, neuroses, insomnia, esophageal spasms, flatulence, constipation, and rapid heartbeat. You can prepare a sedative from valerian as follows: 1 tbsp. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over a spoonful of dry rhizomes, leave for an hour, strain. Take 1 tbsp. spoon 4-5 times a day, children 1 teaspoon 3-4 times a day.

Important: Valerian can cause sleep disturbances and difficult dreams in patients with hypertension.

Hawthorn

What it contains: Rich in vitamins such as beta-carotene, vitamin A, C, E.

What it treats: Eliminates diarrhea, cleanses the blood, improves sleep. Helps with cardiovascular diseases, neuroses, tachycardia, arrhythmia, atherosclerosis and many other diseases. The bark, flowers, and fruits of this tree are useful. Decoctions, teas, tinctures and extracts are prepared from hawthorn. For neurosis and heart defects, arrhythmias, as well as to improve blood circulation in the vessels of the heart, it is recommended to take the following infusion: 1 tbsp. Pour a glass of boiling water over a spoonful of fruits and leave for 3-4 hours, strain and take 2-3 tablespoons each time before meals.

Calendula

What it contains: Calendula flowers contain saponins, carotenoids, fatty acids, essential oils and manganese salts. This composition stimulates the functions of the liver and kidneys, and also helps the absorption of calcium and iron. In addition, they have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and related medicinal properties and are therefore indicated for the treatment of infections, inflammation and skin damage. It is interesting that calendula is also called the “flower of rain”, since it acts as a barometer: if at 6-7 o’clock in the morning the flowers do not open their corollas, then it will rain.

What it treats: Few people know that not only calendula flowers, but leaves are useful, so they can be safely added to the salad. In addition, calendula has been used to treat the stomach, intestines and liver since ancient times. A good infusion for ulcers and gastritis: take four tablespoons of calendula flowers, soak in 500 ml of water for eight hours, and then strain. Add another 500 ml of water to the already soaked flowers and boil for five minutes. After the broth has cooled, strain and mix the resulting filtrate with the filtrate of the first infusion. Drink this infusion three glasses a day. For colitis (fermentation and rotting of food debris in the intestines), you can use a mixture of calendula and St. John's wort flower powders. For treatment, take four to six teaspoons of the mixture per day for three weeks. For a cold that is accompanied by a severe runny nose, I always make this decoction: I brew a handful of calendula flowers in a saucepan and add a few drops of eucalyptus tincture. And then I inhale the hot aroma of the resulting mixture under the blanket (just as they do when they are treated with potatoes). If you repeat this procedure for several days, the cold will go away.

Living in Siberia, we spend a lot of time collecting medicinal herbs, some of which we offer to our guests during their stay and with us. While living in the taiga, we try not to offer strong herbs, limiting ourselves, as a rule, to teas and juices.

Bergenia thickleaf

Herbal tea from bergenia is a tonic tea, improves metabolism, gives strength and helps to cheer up. Bergenia is apparently one of the oldest “drink” plants - a kind of “ancient brew”. Bergenia tea is called Chagir or Mongolian. Dried leaves of the plant are used for tea, preferably those that have overwintered under the snow.

When the bergenia leaves die, they do not fall off. Rain and snow, heat and cold repeatedly soak and dry them, removing excess bitterness - this is natural fermentation. Due to the presence of a large amount of tannins in them, such leaves can remain on the plant for up to 5 years.

You can brew incense instead of regular black tea; it is best to drink it in the morning, it improves metabolism, gives strength and helps to cheer up, and goes well with honey.

It is better to brew bergenia in a large ceramic teapot; it takes longer to brew than regular tea. 2 tbsp. Pour 1 liter of boiling water over spoons of crushed leaves, leave for 15 - 20 minutes, strain. To enhance the flavor, the leaves can be brought to a boil, but do not boil.

Chamomile

It is difficult to list all the healing properties of chamomile. It has anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, antiseptic, astringent, analgesic, anticonvulsant, and choleretic effects. Drinking an infusion of chamomile at night promotes sound sleep, helps with fatigue, and helps neutralize caffeine.

Nettle - healer

Nettle has been used for medicinal purposes for a very long time. It is so universal that it is easier to name diseases that it does not treat. It has long been believed that nettle is a good tonic for older people; it activates the functioning of vital organs and increases the body's defenses.

Nettle contains almost all vitamins, and there is 2.5 times more vitamin C in nettles than in lemons. In modern medicine, stinging nettle is used as a hemostatic agent, due to the presence of vitamin K, which increases blood clotting.

Nettle is an iron-containing plant, and the iron in it is in a form easily absorbed by the human body. Nettle is one of the few plants containing calcium; it contains calcium in the form of a completely harmless compound for the human body - calcium carbonate (chalk).

Nettle has a hematopoietic effect, lowers sugar levels, cleanses the blood and improves its composition. Even the stinging properties of nettle are used for human benefit - for rheumatic, muscle pain and aches.

This is truly an amazing plant! We will talk about nettle - a healer - many times, since it is difficult to name another plant that has such strong medicinal properties and such diverse uses.

Nettle is one of the oldest fibrous plants. From nettle fibers they wove canvas, which was not inferior in quality to linen, wove ropes, and made fishing gear. The strongest sails were made from nettle fabric.

In Japan, nettle rope in combination with silk was the main material in the manufacture of samurai armor; bow strings were made from the strongest nettle fiber, twisted and rubbed with wax.

The population of Eastern Siberia and Kamchatka made products from nettles at the beginning of the 20th century. In Europe, nettle weaving flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries, then nettle was replaced by cotton and silk. Germany and Austria returned to making nettle fabrics during World War I, when they found themselves cut off from sources of fiber raw materials. Remarque's novels mention nettle costumes sold in stores of that time.

Ukrainian girls embroidered shirts with nettles, dyeing them blue with bird cherry juice, black with oak bark, and yellow and green with nettle itself. In India, beautiful silky fabrics are still made from one of the species of this plant.

Even high fashion paid attention to the shy nettle; the Italian fashion house Corpo Nove released a collection of clothes made from German nettle. Remember how in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Wild Swans” a beautiful girl weaves magic nettle shirts for her brothers? This is not such a fiction!

The nutritional value of nettles is comparable to legumes. Vladimir Alekseevich Soloukhin, a Russian Soviet writer and poet, a representative of the so-called “village prose” wrote: “Every year in May I am afraid of missing the nettle season... Armed with scissors and utensils, for example, a sieve, I go to the garden. Here and there, under the cherry tree, near the old hut, near the raspberries, nettle bushes were created from the soft April warmth and the Volga soil, woven from the sunny air and filled with juice and greenery. They still look like bushes, and not like continuous tall thickets. Carefully grasp the top with the fingers of your left hand, and use scissors to scratch under the third pair of leaves. Throw what is left in your left hand into a sieve or dish.

When the soup, no matter what it is, is ready and you can bring it to the table, you need to pour a heap of fresh washed nettles into a boiling pan. And as soon as the boiling in the pan, pacified for a few minutes by cool nettles, resumes, I remove the pan from the heat; I pour the thick green bread onto plates. Spring, May healing and nutritious food is ready. The nettle remains green in the plate, even brighter than it grew on the ground.”

Nettle is a very early plant. This greenery, rich in vitamins and microelements, is not only healthy, but also tasty. Leaves and young shoots of nettle have long been used to prepare soups, purees, and salads.

It can be simple nettle cabbage soup with vegetables, seasoned with sour cream and boiled egg. Soups should be prepared without prolonged cooking, which will certainly destroy some of the so important spring vitamins.

It is better to eat nettle leaves fresh - in salads. And in order not to “get burned,” they should be scalded or slightly dried. Nettle is especially valuable in spring; its young leaves are added to salads as the main green mass. In Transcaucasia, nettles are salted and used as a seasoning for meat, in Dagestan they make a filling for pies, in Georgia they are crushed into a paste and seasoned with vinegar, vegetable oil, salt and pepper. Dry leaves of stinging nettle can be added to flour when baking healthy bread - 1 part nettle to 4 parts flour.

However, attention! Stinging nettle increases blood clotting! People with a tendency to thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, varicose veins should use it with caution. You can weaken this property of stinging nettle by adding plants that reduce blood clotting, such as sweet clover, to your dishes.

Stinging nettle does not contain vitamin K and, accordingly, does not have a hemostatic effect, but all other “nettle” vitamins and microelements are present. Stinging nettle, like stinging nettle, can be eaten raw, boiled, stewed, salted and dried.

Nettle is contraindicated during pregnancy, as well as for persons suffering from hypertension or with individual intolerance to this plant.

Blueberry

Regular consumption of blueberries is a good preventive measure for preventing heart disease. And, of course, blueberries help maintain vision and improve the ability to see in the dark because they strengthen the blood vessels in the back of the eyes.

Blueberries help with genitourinary diseases: they prevent the appearance of prostate tumors at the cellular level. This is due to the fact that blueberries are able to delay the aging process in the human body.

Since blueberries can be used as an anti-aging agent, they act on blood vessels, strengthening them, they help improve memory, prevent infectious diseases and can even maintain normal weight.

For diabetes mellitus, it is necessary to eat as many fresh blueberries as possible during the season, while simultaneously taking a decoction of the leaves. In the off-season, you can brew dried leaves, eat frozen berries, or make an infusion of dried berries. It has been noted that such therapy helps reduce blood sugar and stimulate the pancreas. There are even cases where, in combination with the use of Jerusalem artichoke, people gradually gave up insulin.

Common thyme - uh It is a perennial creeping subshrub, the height of which reaches 35 centimeters. The leaves of thyme are small, and, moreover, dotted with small dots - these are glands containing essential oil. The pinkish-purple flowers of thyme are small; at the ends of the branches they are collected in capitate inflorescences. The fruits of the plant are dark brown nuts with an elliptical shape. Thyme blooms in June-July, and its fruits ripen in August and September.

Thyme is considered an ancient medicinal plant. Avicenna also mentioned him in the “Canon of Medical Science”. The ancient healer believed that thyme was able to drive urine, counteract rot, kill lice, cope with insect bites and relieve headaches. Today, thyme has even wider uses.

You can find thyme in the north and central Russia, in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Siberia and the Urals, on the southern slopes of the Crimean mountains, in sandy and rocky steppes, on the outskirts of pine forests, in rocky tundras.

Thyme has disinfectant and expectorant properties, and therefore the remedy is used for diseases of the upper respiratory tract, for any type of cough, for chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, and whooping cough. Thyme is especially effective when the process begins to subside.

The most valuable raw materials are the upper parts of flowering thyme or its leaves alone. Thyme herb is harvested when the plant blooms. It is necessary to pick off the branches without pulling out the plant by the roots, then dry them in the open air, spreading them out on cloth or paper. The dried raw materials are sifted, removing thick stems. You can store harvested thyme for 2 years.

As a rule, infusions, decoctions, and teas are prepared from thyme; thyme is also added to the bath when bathing.

Thyme effectively treats lung problems. So, with bronchitis or bronchial asthma, thyme infusion will help. To do this, you need to pour a tablespoon of the prepared raw material with a glass of boiling water, then leave the mixture in a thermos for a couple of hours. This thyme infusion should be taken after meals, a tablespoon three or four times a day; for children, the dosage should be reduced to a teaspoon.

For dry throat, as well as for laryngitis, a collection of thyme with leaves of chamomile and plantain flowers, taken in equal quantities, will help. A tablespoon of this mixture should be poured into a glass of boiling water, left for an hour and then taken three times a day, a tablespoon 15-20 minutes before meals.

The cough of “smokers” can be cured by herbal tea. For one part of thyme, you will need 2 parts of hawthorn fruits or flowers and part of black currant leaves. A tablespoon of this mixture should be brewed with a glass of boiling water, left in a thermos for 6-8 hours, and then taken 3-4 times a day, a third of a glass.

Thyme tincture copes with joint and muscle pain - it should be used as a rub. To prepare the tincture, half a half-liter bottle should be filled with fresh thyme leaves and flowers. Then pour in a couple of glasses of vodka and leave the bottle for 2 weeks to steep. After this, the tincture is filtered and the herb is squeezed out. With this tincture you can not only rub your joints, but also take it orally after meals, 30-40 drops.

Regular consumption of tea containing thyme will help in the treatment of prostatitis and impotence. To prepare it, you should brew a tablespoon of oregano and mint in a thermos, as well as 3-4 tablespoons of thyme. Pour boiling water over everything. Leave the infusion overnight and then drink it the next day. You can periodically add St. John's wort, linden or rose hips to this infusion.

Baths with thyme will help restore strength and cleanse the skin. It is enough to boil the thyme, filter it and pour the broth into the bathroom. You should take a bath for 20 minutes.

Thyme oil can stimulate biologically active points, thereby adding energy. You can prepare the oil yourself. Why thyme grass should be poured with vegetable or olive oil and left for a month. The longer you wait, the better. Before use, the required amount of oil should be filtered and rubbed clockwise into points on the body. Part 16 -

Siberian medicinal plants have been known since ancient times. Even in ancient times, people began to study them and use them to treat ailments. During excavations, archaeological scientists often found the remains of once dried plants, as well as fragments of pottery for grinding herbs.

Doctors and healers wrote down their best recipes, collecting and summarizing the experience of their ancestors and their own for subsequent generations. Later, these recipes were combined in handwritten books “Herbalists” and “Healing Books”, which were passed from hand to hand.

As you probably already guessed, today we will talk about medicinal herbs and plants of Siberia. Of course, it is impossible to talk about them all at once, so we will briefly dwell on some of them. So, let's start with perhaps the most popular plant in Siberia - Siberian cedar.

Siberian cedar

Anyone who has been to a cedar forest remembers that unique, clean air that is impossible to breathe. It is enough to spend just an hour a day in such a forest to improve your body’s health. For example, phytoncides that fill the air in the cedar forest have the most positive effect on the respiratory system and cardiovascular system.

All parts of the mighty cedar have healing properties. Tinctures, infusions and decoctions are prepared from nuts, needles, young shoots, and tree bark for the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. They are also used for stomatitis, joint diseases, rheumatism, gout, and blood diseases. Decoctions of pine needles are used externally in the treatment of skin diseases, added to baths for general strengthening of the body, as well as to relieve fatigue, tension, stress, and strengthen the body. And this is still an incomplete list of conditions and ailments that are treated with the help of this mighty tree.

Ivan-tea

Ivan tea or Fireweed is a very beautiful flowering plant, reaching a height of up to one and a half meters. Its stem is covered with lilac-pink or pale pink inflorescences, which are collected in small brushes. Fireweed can often be found in the Tyumen region. Although it is distributed from the Arctic Circle to Kazakhstan. Moreover, the further north Ivan tea grows, the more medicinal properties it has.

An infusion is prepared from the flowering tops of the plant and its leaves, which is used in the complex treatment of cancer. Northern fireweed has a fairly strong hypnotic effect. With the help of the plant, diseases of the stomach, throat are healed, metabolism is restored, etc.

Calendula officinalis

This plant also has another name - marigold. An annual with beautiful flowers in all shades of orange. It has a diaphoretic, bactericidal effect, cleanses the blood of harmful substances. Infusions and tinctures are prepared from calendula and used to treat diseases of the liver, gastrointestinal tract, diathesis and rickets.
The plant is used both independently and in collections with other medicinal herbs.

For example, when treating skin ulcers, injuries, cuts, wounds, marigolds are mixed with wormwood herb (in equal parts), a decoction is prepared, and then lotions are made. After this treatment, the wounds heal quickly and do not fester.

Clover

This plant can be found everywhere on forest edges, clearings, meadows and roadsides. Pink clover has many healing properties. It is used as an expectorant, diuretic, diaphoretic, and antiseptic. Flowers are used in the complex treatment of kidneys, colds, and coughs. It will help with asthma, useful for diabetes, tuberculosis.

A decoction of both pink and white clover flowers improves metabolic processes, in particular fat, reduces the level of bad cholesterol in the blood, stimulates tissue regeneration, and improves immunity.

Burnet plant

This is a very interesting herbaceous plant with small oval panicles on thin stems. In fact, these panicles consist of many very small flowers of a dark cherry or burgundy color. For treatment, the whole plant is used during the flowering period, but the root and rhizome of burnet is especially valued.

A healing infusion is prepared from the roots, which is used in the treatment of various bleedings. The medicinal infusion is given to patients with acute forms of colitis and enteritis.

Relieves diarrhea. The plant, grass, flowers, roots also have the ability to constrict blood vessels and help with cramps. An infusion of the plant is used as an astringent, analgesic, and bactericidal agent.

A decoction of the roots and rhizomes of burnet is used for varicose veins, burns, and to treat dysentery, fibroids, and cervical erosion.

Peony officinalis

A very beautiful plant with large flowers from white to dark burgundy. It is also called evasive peony, Maryin root. It is planted in gardens, on personal plots, as a flower garden decoration. Flower petals and roots are used for medicinal purposes. Medicines are prepared from them for the treatment of gout, neuroses, and vegetative-vascular dystonia. Peony, or rather medicinal remedies from it, is used in the treatment of epilepsy.

Of course, it is impossible to tell about all the medicinal plants and herbs of Siberia at once. This region is famous for its medicinal wild plants. And many of them, in particular, Siberian cedar and fireweed, are valued far beyond the borders of our country and have gained worldwide fame.
