DIY coin crafts: practical use of pennies to create original products and decorations. (50 photos). Crafts from coins Making coins

Good day, brainwashes! Have you ever wondered what you will look like on a coin? Now you have a chance to find out, and my brainstorming about the creation with your own hands own coin.

In the distant past, the creation of a coin was carried out rather laboriously, with the help of two stamps, between which a plate of soft metal was placed, and then compressed with pressure of several tons. Today everything is simpler, you just need to make a 3D model crafts and send it to a CNC mill for processing. To find out more brain process create your own coin, just follow the steps in this guide!

Required materials and tools:

  • brass billet
  • screws
  • CNC router with soft metal processing option
  • 3D modeling software (for example, Autodesk 123D Catch)
  • graphic editor for photo processing
  • metal cutter
  • needle file/sandpaper
  • camera

Well, let's begin!

Step 1: 3D Head Model

At this stage, to create a 3D model of the head, you can use two methods, unless of course you have the fortunate opportunity to scan your head in high quality on a 3D scanner. The first is to create it in Autodesk software called 123D Catch, which “stitches” a 3D model from several photographs of the head. The second method involves constructing a depth map from brainphoto to create a relief that will be transferred to the coin.

The first method, working in 123D Catch, is described in Step:2, and to create a depth map, go straight to Step:4. Unfortunately, both methods are time-consuming, but the results are excellent.

Step 2: Autodesk 123D Catch

Using Autodesk 123D Catch is perhaps the easiest option, and I will not go into details, because there are a lot of descriptions and video instructions for working with this software on the Internet.

The point is to take as many photographs of your head as possible from different angles. When taking photographs, you should not move; the photos themselves should be clear and with the greatest depth of field (that is, if the nose is in focus, then the eyes should not be blurry). If the photos are unclear, this will affect the quality of the model.

If you choose this method, be prepared to take about 50-100 photos covering your head from different angles. But, if you are making a model to create a relief on a coin, then you can take fewer photographs, only on one side of the head.

Once all the necessary frames have been captured, they are “passed” through 123D Catch and a 3-dimensional model is obtained, further manipulation of which can be done in a 3D editor of your choice.

Step 3: Coin Modeling

If the 3D model is ready and smoothed to a state that suits you, then it needs to be “halved” and “crumpled” the way it will look on a coin.

Step 4: Depth Map

The method of creating a depth map is more complex and requires more manipulation, but gives better results, if of course you have time.

The very idea of a depth map is that the lighter places brainphoto located closer to the camera. The closest parts of an object are white, the farthest parts are black, and everything in between is shades of gray. Unfortunately, simply converting a photo to grayscale and then converting the “gray” photo into a depth map will not work.

In the graphic editor, we start transforming your photo by converting it to black and white mode, then adjust the brightness and contrast - move the value sliders and achieve the brightness and contrast needed for the depth map. Nothing supernatural, just ordinary work with graphics. You can use burn and dodge effects to get the desired result. The hair can be cut into a separate layer and inverted, thereby making it stand out (especially if the hair is dark).

During processing you may have to switch between 3D software (I will show you how to use it in the next step) and a graphic editor to work out the details of your brain models.

Step 5: Profile Modeling

In the 3D modeling software we find a function for drawing out geometric dimensions using the depth map that we have already made. Basically, all we will do is extrude the geometry of the polygon depending on the color of the corresponding pixel in the depth map. If the pixel is white, then you need to pull out a lot, gray - less, black - not pull out at all, and in the end you will get a relief profile.

This process may differ depending on the selected software, for example, in Autodesk 3ds Max this is called Displace (modifier), in Rhinoceros 3D this action is called heighfield, in other programs it may be different. In some programs, such as Solidworks, this action is not so easy to perform.

Once the depth map conversion is complete and the relief profile looks as expected, we model the remaining coin details around the face profile and move on to the next step.

Step 6: Alternative

At this stage, your “coin” fantasies have been embodied in a 3D model, and nothing stops you from giving up milling the coin, but instead printing it on a 3D printer, also from metal. And for this there are many companies offering this service, but keep in mind that a printed coin will be several times more expensive than one made on a milling machine. Although if you do not have access to a CNC router or do not plan to buy one, then for printing one coin the option is quite viable.

Coins are a good material for making various DIY crafts. Strength and absolutely correct shape ensures this material is widely popular among real DIYers. In addition, coins can have different sizes and shapes, which also provides opportunities for flight of fancy.

2) To do box of coins You will need a lot of little things that will serve as a frame and a decorative element at the same time. There are two ways to make such a homemade product with your own hands. First, you can use a ready-made box as a frame, which you can simply cover with coins. But we will go the other way - we will completely make the craft from coins. You need to lay out the coins in towers, gluing them together. This way you will line the walls of the box. To lay out the bottom, you should glue one coin to another in the form of scales. I forgot to say that you can use regular super glue to attach coins to each other.

3) Frame of coins much easier to make than a shiny box. You need to cut out a rectangle with wide walls from durable cardboard. Only the dimensions of these walls (in thickness) should not be much larger than the dimensions of the coins, so that the frame does not turn out to be too heavy. Glue one coin to another like scales. The photo should be placed at the back of the frame. But if you want the photo to be able to be changed, you will have to make a simple mechanism. For example, you can glue guide strips from the same cardboard.

4) And to make such a homemade product - coin ring, you need to be a true master of your craft. This is a real work of art (by the way, quite a worthwhile one). I can’t tell you HOW you can do this with your own hands because I’m unlikely to succeed even in something similar. But there is always something to strive for.))

Crafts from coins: metal creativity (20 photos)

A thing made with your own hands radiates special energy, because the soul of the master is invested in it, his joy from creative work, and crafts made from coins also have the magical property of attracting money. However, this is not the only reason why pennies often become part of hand-made compositions.

Advantages of coins as a material for crafts:

  • Availability (every home has little things);
  • Durability of metal products (labor will not be in vain);
  • The correct rounded shape makes it easier to make crafts with your own hands;
  • The presence of several diameters expands the possibilities of use (fulfillment of plans);
  • Variety of designs (embossing) and choice of colors (yellow and white).

The proposed ideas for “coin creativity” are easy to implement. You just need to stock up on the required amount of change.

What can you make from pennies?

The simplest crafts require a glue gun, a base item and a sufficient amount of small items. The manufacturing method is simple: a clean surface is sequentially covered with coins.

By choosing coins of different denominations, you can achieve filling the entire area without gaps. The finishing elements can be placed flat or at an angle (that is, glue the coin with an edge).

Such crafts are good because you don’t need to drill or bend anything or cut metal.

Beautiful DIY coin crafts:

  • Vase or flowerpot;
  • Photo frame;
  • Souvenir “money bottle”;
  • Floating cup, money tap;
  • Furniture decor;
  • Topiary (horseshoe of happiness, hearts, balls).

The imagination of craftsmen is not limited to simply pasting finished objects. A trifle becomes a full-fledged “building material”! The coins are stacked one on top of the other, forming cylinders. Walls are then built from coin columns. Crafts in the form of a ship, a castle, or a box are made using this method.

What can be done to ensure that the craft does not lose its spectacular appearance over time?

Experienced craftsmen cover coins with spray paint (silver or gold) and then with acrylic varnish in several layers. This item is easy to care for. It can be wiped with a damp cloth.

How to achieve a smooth surface? If the gaps between the pennies bother you, you can fill them with silicone. Moreover, it is not necessary to use a transparent composition.

We choose thicker cardboard and cut out a frame of the desired shape from it. The width of the frame should not be too large (a little larger than the diameter of the coins is enough) so that the product does not turn out to be too heavy.

Then we glue the pennies. Here everyone acts as their fantasy dictates. You can glue only a few coins in the corners or fill the entire surface with coins, choose coins that are absolutely identical in size and color, or create patterns from different elements.

Place the photo on the back of the frame. To make it easier to change photos, you can glue cardboard guides for the photo card.

Coins have long been used to decorate clothes, make jewelry and talismans from them. Moreover, the money in the product did not lose its purchasing power. A bracelet or monisto could be exchanged for food.

Modern craftsmen drill holes in coins and connect them with wires, forming chains (sometimes in several tiers). You can make a pendant, earrings, or bracelet from coins with a hole. In the latter case, pennies can be attached to a chain with small rings made of thin wire or connected with a braided cord.

Making a ring is a little more difficult, but the craftsman is afraid, so nothing is impossible for a handy man.

Money trees have long been popular crafts made from coins. This symbol of prosperity makes a good gift or a good interior decoration.

To work you will need:

  • Kopecks (it is better to use elements with a minimum diameter, in denominations of 1 or 10 kopecks);
  • Thin wire;
  • Stand;
  • Thick wire or real tree branches;
  • Acrylic paints;
  • Plasticine or putty;
  • Tools.
  1. We make holes in the coins.
  2. We attach a tree formed from thick wire or branches to the stand.
  3. We cut the thin wire into pieces 10-20 centimeters long.
  4. We thread the wire into the hole of the coin, bend it in half and twist the free ends. It turns out to be a circle on a flexible stick.
  5. We connect individual blanks together in 3-5 pieces. We twist the wires. We form branches.
  6. We twist the resulting branches around the tree branches on the stand.
  7. We mask all flaws with putty. Let it dry.
  8. We paint the trunk and base with acrylic paints. Let it dry.
  9. Cover with varnish. It is better to use matte varnish for the barrel, and glossy for coins.

The money tree can not only stand on a stand, but also hang on the wall as a picture. To do this, glue the trunk and branches from any suitable material onto the selected base. These could be sticks and twigs found on a walk, rope or twine, plasticine or clay. We take whatever is at hand. We arrange coins artistically around the branches. You may have to cover the creation with a thin layer of acrylic paint (to even out the color) and apply shadows and add various decorative elements.

The basis for the panel can be a rectangular sheet of plywood or fiberboard. This method of storing travel souvenirs is much more convenient and effective than keeping “trophies” in bulk.

Designing a panel in the form of three-dimensional letters is as easy as shelling pears. We cut out symbols from plywood or cardboard (you can use thick foam or other convenient material) and glue coins of various denominations and sizes (currencies of different countries) onto droplets of hot glue.

Inexhaustible cash flow - who would refuse it? You can only dream about it or admire it as a symbol of abundance if it is given to you.

For this coin craft you will need:

  • cup and saucer (it is better to use a set made of thin light metal or plastic);
  • aluminum fork;
  • coins;
  • glossy acrylic varnish;
  • hot glue.
  • We bend the fork so that its teeth can catch on the edge of the saucer, and glue the cup to the handle in a horizontal position.
  • We weigh down the base (glue a handful of coins one after another).
  • We attach a fork to the saucer, and glue a cup to its end.
  • We cover the fork with coins so that it is not visible.
  • We cover the “stream” with several layers of varnish (the more, the better) to create the appearance of a water sheen.

Instead of a cup, you can glue a tap or a horn, the meaning of the original coin craft will not change.

Such gifts have magical powers. They attract financial well-being. Money to money, penny to penny - the truth of these expressions has been confirmed by many years of practice. The shining object serves as a magnet for banknotes of different denominations. The symbol of an inexhaustible cash flow will be useful for both businessmen and housewives.

THE MASTER'S WORK IS AFRAID!

Crafts made from coins have now become very popular. Their strength and correct shape, as well as your flight of imagination, can create a completely unique gift for your family and friends that you cannot buy in a store. It is also believed that this is not just cute, but also symbolic, as it contributes to the material well-being of the owner of this souvenir. Ten-kopeck coins are best suited for crafts; due to their small size, the souvenir will look neat and elegant.

If you make a souvenir according to all the rules in order to use it to attract monetary luck, then the coins must be attached with the obverse facing up.

Obverse (French avers, Latin adversus - facing). That is, the obverse is considered to be the side opposite to the side on which the denomination of the coin is depicted.

Money for a wedding in our time is not just a common, but a traditional gift. But giving them simply in an envelope is not very original, and neither are the newlyweds themselves.

There is a special sign - giving a horseshoe for good luck. I suggest you show originality and make a horseshoe with your own hands. The master class contains details.

Many are accustomed to the fact that coins are a means of payment that can be left in a store or put in a piggy bank. But restless craftsmen with indefatigable imagination came up with an unusual use for them, making crafts from coins with their own hands. Yes, such that sometimes you are amazed at what kind of creations you get. The following information is for those who are not indifferent to creative delights at home.

Master class from coins

At first glance, it is difficult to make beautiful crafts from small money, but in fact, nothing is easier if your hands know how to bring the plan to life.

To confirm the veracity of our words, let's take a step-by-step look at how to make a gorgeous apple.

You need to prepare the following materials in advance:

  • a base (a plastic orange or apple, a rubber ball, a foam ball, a Christmas tree toy will do);
  • glue gun;
  • threads;
  • scissors;
  • coins;
  • decorative leaves.

Simple crafts

If you have the desire, but don’t have enough experience, you can start with the simplest craft options.

Such a pyramid is very easy to make: you just need to glue together individual rows first: 3 rows of 5 coins, 3 rows of 4, 3 rows of 3, 3 rows of 2 and the very top is crowned with a structure of 3 coins on each side.

Making a box is simple, but in terms of time this process can be called protracted. You will need to glue together many columns of small items, and then use them to create any geometric shape you want (circle, rectangle, square, heart). The lid of the box can be made flat, or you can, as in the photo, glue the material, creating a three-dimensional look.

Any vase or jug can be refreshed with the help of old and new coins (pre-cleaned) glued to them. And then these items will sparkle in a new way in the interior of the apartment.

If you have collected a sufficient number of metal monetary units, then replace the old or tired upholstery of any furniture with a new and shiny one.

Children will be delighted with their favorite cartoon character made on cardboard, first with a pencil sketch, and then with the help of glue, coins and colored cardboard.

In the old days, jewelry made from zlotys had a double meaning: they were worn not only for beauty, but also so that in difficult times it would be possible to pay for food. Nowadays such pendants are worn by adherents of the boho style and gypsy motifs. Moreover, everyone can make such pendants, bracelets and earrings with their own hands.

Coin tree

The most popular type of crafts made from coins is the money tree, which should bring financial success to the person in whose house it is located.

To get started, prepare:

  • burlap;
  • coins in large quantities (any coins that are in the house, but preferably of the same size or denomination);
  • PVA glue;
  • glue gun;
  • sponge, brush, acrylic paints;
  • photo frame;
  • 3-layer napkin;
  • scissors.

When starting work, take burlap and cover the cardboard component of the photo frame with it using glue. From the prepared napkin, cut strips a little less than 2 cm wide for the future trunk. To make it, take one of the strips, unfold it and divide it into 2 parts (for more comfortable rolling), then quickly dip it in water to soften it and twist it with a flagellum. Make movements strictly in one direction at an angle of 45°.

At this stage, you need to find any sketch you like on the Internet (or a craft magazine). It's good if you did this a little earlier. Looking at the selected photo, you should recreate it as closely as possible in your craft. Glue the paper flagella to the burlap in a certain order, achieving the exact shape of the trunk and branches.

After gluing all the tissue material, leave the work for a while so that the glue dries completely. After some time, use a heat gun to place 50-100 coins on the burlap. First, the contour of the crown is “outlined” with metal pennies, and after that the rest of the space is filled. Coins can also be glued on top of each other to visually increase the volume of the “leaves”.

Advice! Make sure that the coin crown turns out beautiful and lush, otherwise a meager number of coins will not be able to recreate the beautiful appearance of the tree.

If the glue has left marks on the burlap, they can be removed with a stiff brush. Only after this the application must be dried.

When everything has dried, acrylic paints are applied to the entire craft, and then the coins can also be treated with bronze paint. After this is done, leave the semi-finished product to dry again. When the time is up, insert the result of the work into the frame. In this form, the craft is quite suitable as a gift for any event.

Ordinary coins that have already gone out of use, or are simply lying around as unnecessary weight in your bins, can be turned into original jewelry, or used to decorate any surface. Today we offer you a small master class, thanks to which you can change either a coffee table or any interior door.

Materials for work:

  • A lot of coins (absolutely any, but preferably the same diameter);
  • Wire cutters;
  • A suitable horizontal surface (in our case, the author used a regular interior door without embossed inserts and glass);
  • Thin wooden slats to match the door;
  • Any glue;
  • Epoxy resin in large quantities;

So, as already mentioned, absolutely any horizontal surface is suitable for our product. In this case, wood looks like a more advantageous option, as it harmonizes with the color of copper coins.

Wooden slats must be glued to the edges of our surface, and the corners must fit tightly to each other; this is very important at the final stage, when we apply the coating.

Now you need to decide on the pattern that you will lay out on the surface. You can use diagonal stripes, floral motifs or a simple geometric pattern. Color effects can be created by swapping coins of different colors. Typically, the oldest coins have a dark copper tint, while newer coins have a gold cast.

When the pattern is determined, you can begin to lay out its surface, gluing one coin at a time. In places where a whole coin is not needed, use wire cutters to cut off what is unnecessary and place the coin in place. We also do not throw away the remaining pieces; they may be needed to fill voids along the edge of the surface.

In principle, it does not matter which side or in which direction to move, although it is better to start from the edges or from any corner, and then move straight. We place the coins as close to each other as possible so that there are no large gaps between them.

When the entire surface is covered with coins, you can begin the final part. We take epoxy resin and a special hardener, and mix it all until a homogeneous mass is obtained (the number of components is written on each package and depends on the type of resin and manufacturer). When the mixture is ready, simply pour it onto the surface with the coins. In this case, wooden slats act as sides and will not allow the still liquid material to leave its place.

We leave it all until it dries completely and we end up with an original surface that will help you decorate any room.
